- Building Classroom Discipline, by C.M. Charles
-Building Classroom Discipline is an excellent book concerning classroom management, an important issue that teachers face everyday. The book presents many different theorists, each with their own approach towards discipline. The idea is to take what appeals to you, and apply it in your own classroom. I find that agree with some of the elements proposed by theorists such as William Glasser, along with Harry and Rosemary Wong.
- Understanding By Design, by Grant Wiggins and Jay McTighe
-Understanding By Design is a book concerning a philosophy behind lesson planning. In short, the idea is to plan lessons backwards, starting with the goal before determining how to get there. In other words, you determine what your students need to understand, then plan what needs to happen to reach that understanding. This ensures that every lesson has a point, and students' time is never wasted.
-There are several articles which discuss the importance of differentiation in the classroom. Many teachers find themselves overwhelmed trying to plan individually for the many different learning types found in the classroom. Differentiation is a more efficient means of reaching the various learning types, by instead incorporating various ways of presenting material into lessons, to ensure that as many learning styles as possible are being addressed.
-This is an excellent article that discusses the importance of metacognition, or "thinking about one's thinking". Examining your own thought process allows one to learn and perform better, and an understanding of one's own thinking will allow a greater understanding of the thought processes of others, which is a useful asset in education.
